End Of Module Evaluation - Visual Communication

The skills I believe I have developed throughout the module-
  • research skills - initial ideas, market research, looking at contemporary practices.
  • working with others
  • use of media
  • Illustrator software
  • Photoshop
I applied them by developing them and applying the skills to the briefs. My research informed my ideas, as well as working with peers. I also believe that I've improved with my use of Photoshop - I've discovered the use of different brushes to create desired effects in an image, and I've also began to work with Illustrator for the first time, so I understand how it's used. The use of software has helped a lot in producing my products for visual communication.
My strengths in this module I feel were in the planning of images - I thumbnail my ideas a lot more now when we start a brief, and I also plan the composition in this process too. I've found that I also feel a lot more compelled to do contextual research as I go through the planning stage- I went through so many articles in the first brief, images from different cities on the 'Greetings from..' brief, also observing many film posters, facts on Kurosawa, samurai paintings etc for 'People of note.' even watching the directors films helped me get a good idea of what to include in my posters. I recognise that this is a vital part of image making. I've also started to blog a lot more and sooner, which I've found makes life much easier.
The weaknesses I've noticed are that I tend to jump straight into image making as soon as i'm finished doing contextual research, and not really testing as many ideas as I should. When I feel the pressure of limited time, it's hard for me to play with medias. I realized this limits the quality of my outcomes. What I would do differently next time - I'll spend more time trying and testing, more media play, I shall look at how I can improve my images despite when I think i'm finished. I also think that I should produce more outcomes, so that I can pick the strongest ones to work as my final outcomes. Lastly, I could improve by making time to blog the work I complete in the same day, so that my thoughts are fresh in my mind.
